Gardener's Notes: Squash is a warm-season crop. Sow directly in the garden in late spring or early summer when night temps stay above 50F (10C). Before planting, Before planting, work well-rotted compost or a slow-release fertilizer into the soil at label rate. Plant 2-3 seeds 1 in. deep every 2 feet. Thin to 1 strong plant per group. For best flavor pick when 4-6 inches long. Harvest often to keep plants producing longest.
