Deer Fern - Blechnum spicant
Deer Fern (Blechnum spicant) is a graceful evergreen fern prized for its leathery, deep green fronds and distinctive two-tiered growth habit. Low, arching sterile fronds form a tidy rosette while narrower fertile fronds rise upright from the centre, creating attractive texture and vertical interest. Native to British Columbia and other parts of northwestern North America, it thrives in cool, moist woodland conditions and is an excellent choice for shaded borders, naturalized gardens, and mass plantings. This slow-spreading, low-maintenance fern prefers acidic, humus-rich soil and provides year-round greenery in partial to full shade.
