Daucus carota
- Deliciously sweet, small conical roots
- Can be closely spaced to produce ‘baby’ roots
- Germination in 14-21 days.
- Harvest in 70 days.
These particular carrots are short, succulent and sweet tasting. They have short roots that can be used whole as baby carrots or left to mature. A fast growing vegetable that is ideal for containers and shallow ground. Often planted in the early spring to the early summer, you can expect harvesting to be ready between June and October.
Approx. 1000 Seeds
Outdoors: sow thinly, March-June, where they are to crop, 1.5cm (½") deep, directly into finely-prepared, light, fertile soil, which has already been watered. Allow 30cm (1') between rows. Early sowings may benefit cloche protection. Seedlings usually appear in 14-21 days. Thin by harvesting young carrots evenly from the row, allowing remainder to grow on. Water well until plants are established. Harvest: June-October. Roots can be lifted in autumn. Remove soil and store in dry sand.
The short roots make it possible to grow these carrots in more stony soils and they are ideal for growing in containers.
Tomatoes, Onions, and Rosemary are all said to deter the carrot fly.
