Capsicum annuum
Really attractive long, tapering red and yellow waxy fruits. Bitey without the risk of removing one's palate!
Peppers are a vital part of the cooking for so many dishes. Best crops will be achieved in a greenhouse, but smaller, later crops can be produced when grown in a sunny sheltered location outdoors. Some dwarf varieties are ideal for growing in pots on the patio.
Caution: Wash hands after handling as juice can sting skin and eyes.
Approx. 50 Seeds
Sow indoors, February-April, in trays or individual pots of moist compost. Maintain a temperature of approx. 18°C (65°F); a warm, kitchen windowsill is generally suitable. Keep moist. Transplant to 12.5cm (5”) pots, when seedlings are approx. 5cm (2”) tall. Plant out under glass in May. Or, to grow outdoors, harden off and plant out in June, spacing 45cm (18”) between plants. Harvest: July to October.
Gently spray flowers with tepid water to help plants set and end feed with a general fertiliser, when fruits start to swell.
