Hosta – Blue Umbrellas
Hosta ‘Blue Umbrellas’ is a magnificent giant blue hosta that forms a large, symmetrical mound of richly textured, umbrella-like blue-green leaves measuring about 15″ long by 13″ wide. While the leaves begin powdery blue in spring, they mature to blue-green and occasionally darken in summer, retaining a beautifully cupped form. In early summer, slender scapes around 30–36″ tall rise above the foliage with pale lavender to white bell flowers that attract hummingbirds and pollinators. Exceptionally hardy (USDA zones 3a–8b), it tolerates shade to partial sun, thrives in moist, well-drained soil, and is slug-resistant—making it a true specimen plant for woodland or shaded borders.
