Iris sibirica - Ruffled Velvet

Each bloom of ‘Ruffled Velvet’ showcases deep, velvety reddish‑purple falls beneath lighter amethyst standards, edged with romantic ruffling and accented by a bright yellow blaze at the base. These dramatic flowers rise in late spring to early summer atop robust stems that reach about 60–75 cm (24–30 in), forming bold mounded clumps of grey‑green grass-like foliage that mirror their bloom height . Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit and the American Iris Society’s Morgan Award, this cultivar is widely admired for both performance and beauty. Suited for Zones 3–9 (sometimes listed as Zones 4a–9b), it thrives in moist yet well-drained, humus-rich soils under full sun to light shade. Low-maintenance, deer- and rabbit-resistant, and excellent for borders, mass plantings, cutting, and pollinator gardens.
