Ligularia stenocephala - The Rocket

An imposing centerpiece in moist shade gardens, Ligularia stenocephala ‘The Rocket’ forms a lush mound of large, serrated heart‑ to triangular green leaves, each up to about 12 in (30 cm) long, creating fall-back appeal throughout the season. In mid-summer, thick purplish‑black stems rise 4–5 ft tall (120–150 cm), topped with dense racemes of bright lemon‑yellow, daisy‑like flowers that glow above the foliage in July and August. This Award of Garden Merit winner thrives in rich, consistently moist soil in part to full shade—ideal for rain gardens, shaded borders, pondsides, or woodland plantings where moisture is steady. A standout focal point that demands minimal maintenance yet delivers maximum impact, it attracts pollinators and is generally deer-resistant.
