Brassica napus rapifera

To clear up some confusion, this is not a rutabaga. This turnip is an attractive older cultivar introduced before 1890. It produces round roots with a purplish-red top and a white bottom. The flesh is quite crisp and mild tasting. Younger leaves are suitable for salads.

Approx. 1,500 seeds/pkt

How to Grow

Similar in culture to other members of the Brassica family. Sow seed in mid-spring 2-2.5cm (3/4-1") deep and 2.5cm (1") apart in rows 30cm (12") apart. Thin to 12.5cm (5") apart after germination. Harvest when the roots are 7.5-10cm (3-4") across. Not to be confused with the Rutabaga or Swede.
