Zea mays
A cherished heirloom first introduced in 1902, Golden Bantam is the variety that changed the public’s preference from white to yellow sweet corn. This old favourite delivers a truly delicious, old-fashioned flavour with a true eight-rowed cob featuring broad, sweet golden kernels. This is a classic tasting corn for any hard-to-please palate!
What you need to know to Plant & Grow
For a successful crop, plant sweet corn only when the soil has warmed to at least 18°C.
Planting: To ensure proper pollination, plant at least 3 to 4 rows. When planting in rows, space seeds 10-15 cm apart, later thinning to 20-30 cm apart. Rows should be spaced 55-75 cm apart. Alternatively, corn can be planted with 3 to 4 seeds per hill, with hills spaced 30 cm apart. Germination occurs in approximately 10 days.
Care: Work a good general vegetable fertilizer into the soil at planting, keep weeds under control, and ensure the soil is evenly watered throughout the season. Irrigation is essential for proper kernel formation. Watch the ripeness carefully and pick before the kernels over-ripen for the best flavour and texture.
Approx. 100-125 seeds/pkt
