Toad Lily - Tricyrtis hirta

A graceful choice for shade gardens, Tricyrtis hirta—commonly called Japanese Toad Lily—produces clusters of delicate, orchid-like flowers in late summer to early fall. Each pale lavender to white bloom is intricately freckled with deep purple spots and rises on arching stems above lush, lance-shaped leaves. This herbaceous perennial reaches around 60–90 cm (2–3 ft) in height and 30–60 cm (1–2 ft) wide, thriving in rich, consistently moist, acidic to neutral soil under partial to full shade. Relatively low-maintenance and deer-resistant, it also supports bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds in woodland or border settings.
