Astrantia major – Hadspen Blood

A rich, dark-crimson Masterwort treasured for its deep carmine-red pincushion flower umbels rising above a mound of bright green, lobed foliage. Blooming from late spring to summer (May–July), then reblooming with deadheading, it adds season‑long interest and structure to moist borders or woodland gardens. Compact yet bold, it reaches about 60–75 cm tall and spreads 45–60 cm, making it ideal for mass plantings, shady beds, or cut-flower displays. Thrives in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil under full sun to part shade; deer‑ and rabbit‑resistant and highly attractive to pollinators like bees and butterflies.
